- Each day you share many links and most of you have noticed that it's blue. But literally, Why blue? Couldn't any other colours be tried out or couldn't it left black like other texts?
The whole story begins from 1990s , when the internet was at its first phases. The first web browsers at that time like NCSA Mosaic had a greyscale theme ( black text and grey background). The links were special as they directed users from one page to another. Keeping those links in the same colour and manner as the other texts would result in confusion to the users as they were less known about it at that time. A study was conducted and the conclusion was drawn that keeping those links in different colour than that of text would be a good way to tackle that problem. But a question arised " Which colour should be chosen? ". The three primary colours i.e. Red, Green & Blue were suggested. But why blue was chosen?
During study, it was found that many users suffering from colour blindness had Red - Green deficiency. ( Even Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg had Red - Green deficiency so he designed Facebook in blue theme. ) The normal users also felt difficult to differentiate red - green colour from the background. So the choice was a bright, pleasant and quite distinguisable colour: Blue. ( But WWW founder, Tim Berners Lee says that the selection of blue colour was done in random but there was a vast science behind it. )
The blue colour seem to be a good choice as the people having Red - Green deficiency could differentiate it and to normal users it looked quite nice and gave a feeling of something special exists behind those texts. Finally it was chosen as the default colour for hyperlinks. Look at a active link next time, you will feel it's speciality.
But are all the hyperlinks blue? NO, all the hyperlinks are not blue. Blue is just a default colour for hyperlinks and can be changed while HTML coding. That's why you see other colours link too.
Hope you got a lot information about the hyperlinks. Stay tuned..
Thank you!
