Are we using smartphones more than we need to? - The darkside of our smartphones

Image
As a precious gift of 21st century's technology, smartphones fill a great part of our daily lives. Our routine is now linked with them. Ashamed to say but we are in their custody now. Every time I unlock my phone, the first thing that comes to my mind is " What brought me to unlock this phone ? " and mostly the answer is " nothing " . If the answer is " something " sometimes, than that "something"  is no other than checking messages, notifications, and statistics of my social medias. It's not that every time I unlock my phone there is no logical reason. I often use it to have important communications,  to Google out my doubt or to solve my curiosity about something but after sometime that ghost of my phone takes me under it's control. So here's a question " Why are we checking our smartphone ever now and then just to find nothing (rarely something) new? or Why we remain hooked up with our smart

10 things you can do during lockdowns.

How can you utilise your time at home during lockdowns?

Due to the widespread corona virus (COVID-19), citizens of many countries are ordered to be at home so that the chain of infection could be broken. Due to these lockdowns, people have a lot of free time to spend at home with their families. It's time to let Mother Nature refresh and spend your time at home to be safe and keep others safe. Many of you are thinking about how to pass this time. No worries, here are some things you can do during your stay at home to make this time productive.

1. Acquiring new knowledge
Education is a never ending process. During your time at home, you can gain a lot of knowledge through the Internet. You can search your topic of interest and know much about it through websites, blogs and Wikipedia pages. You can also note your new discoveries for future.
You can take courses online about any topic if you want to. For example: coding, graphic designing, etc.
You can also try learning new languages. This will be exciting as well as it will benefit you someday if you are on travel after the conditions becomes normal.

2. Reading books
During your normal days you gave your time to your day to day activities. During this free time , why not spend some hours a day reading books. You might have some novels, story books, etc which you didn't mind reading. Now it's time to bring them up and spend some time reading them. You can get fascinated by fiction, joyed by romance or thrilled by mysteries. You can get into a whole new world of words and undiscovered knowledge.
If you don't want physical books, you can try e-books, podcasts and many more which you can find on Internet. (Kindle, Play books, iBooks, etc)

3. Learning some skills and habits
During this time, you can learn some new skills and habits. You can learn new food recipes from your mom. You can learn some work tricks from your dad. If you want be perfect at something, this is the right time to practice it (but with full precautions).

4. Cleaning your room and home
You can use this time to clean up your room or house. Your room might have a lot of junk gathered which you can check correctly and do a cleanup.
You can clean your desk, bed, carpet and even gadgets like speakers, camera, smartphones, tablets, computer, oven, fridge, etc. Hygiene and sanitation is important during this time.

5. Reviewing your photos/videos and backing them up
We snap a lot of photos, videos and screenshots regularly and lot of them are unnecessarily taking space. You can use this time to review your photos, sort the necessary ones and delete the unnecessary ones and back them up in drives or in cloud. Doing this will free up your space as well as you can get a flashback of your photos and memories with them.

6. Starting a blog or a YouTube channel
If you are interested in sharing your knowledge and thoughts, you can freely open a YouTube channel and make videos. If you don't want to speak than you can create a free blog site in Blogspot or Wordpress to write articles of your interest. If you work a bit harder in this field you can also earn money from it. (I highly recommend blogging and YouTube at this time because this time is historic. Sharing your experience of lockdowns and home quarantine will be a memory as well a huge source of information to future generations.) This will also help to note your new discoveries if you write or make video on the lessons you learned from point 1, 2 & 3. If you enjoy making videos or writing in other topics, you can do that too. This will make you extrovert & improve your speaking and writing skills as well.
If you enjoy making short videos than try Tik-Tok.

7. Write poems, songs, stories, diaries, etc
During this time your mind gets a lot time to think and many thoughts flash into your mind. Why not shape your thoughts into beautiful poetry, songs, story, essay or drawings.

8. Establish and follow your hobby
If you have some hobbies your can use this time to fulfill that. If you do not have any hobbies, you can establish one and follow it.

9. Spending as much time with your family
Your family is everything in your life so take this moment as a chance to spend time with your family.

10. Netflix, Prime, YouTube
If you get bored, you can subscribe Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube channels to enjoy awesome contents. They have a huge collection of movies, documentaries, informative videos which you can enjoy.

This are some ideas I have. You can use your own creativity to find new ways to pass time. Whatever you do, keep yourself inside your home and follow precautions against COVID-19. Keep yourself updated, away from fake news and enjoy your life.

You can get information about Covid-19 in the official website of WHO.
